Requirements for inspection fall protection PPE
The Work at Height Regulations requires a personal fall protection system to be of sufficient strength for the purpose for which it is being used.
This means that every time the PPE is used it must be of sufficient strength. In addition, the Work at Height Regulations 2005 require that equipment which is exposed to conditions that could causing deterioration and which are liable to result in dangerous situations should be inspected at suitable intervals and each time exceptional circumstances which might jeopardise safety have occurred.
In the ACR s opinion, anchorage lines on roofs fall under this category.
Therefore systems supplied should be fit for the intended purpose to start with taking into account environmental factors, and the period of inspection should also take into account the nature of the specific system supplied and the effect of the environmental factors.
Annual inspections on their own may not be sufficient to comply with the law.
